BeantwoordenVerwijderenI think the significance of the line is almost the most important line in the entire story.
the way it is brought to you in the ending of that story, makes it very compatible.
The whole story they are busy with explaining that she is really happy, and when you arrive at the end, and they say summer is over.
Indicating that all the happiness she had Is gone.
It gives you a horrifying realization that happiness can get taken away just as easily it can be given to you.
What I like to think about in this story, is that the writer wanted to give you an idea on the history, and what happened in the civil war.
And how easily you can come across it, in this case there was just a girl wandering in the woods
And then she finds a corpse.
For that I think this is the most significant or rather important line in this story

BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat is the significance of the final sentence, according to you?
I think the meaning of the final sentence is that the childhood of Myop is over and the trauma she is in and will be over her whole childhood. I think that it I A logical thing to think about its not really in the text to show evidence but come on she experienced a dead tortured dead man. Myop was just a little girl who lived happily until one day she got traumatized for live. Because that one she literally experienced a dead body with his head chopped off, limbs everywhere and teeth all broken or cracked. Like If I was Myop I would be traumatized as well. In fact I would need to see a therapist. In fact my whole childhood would be over. So that’s why I think the significance of the final story is the end of Myop’s childhood.
this is the wrong one

I like the way you talk about it, but there are a few mistakes when formulating sentences

BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat is the significance of the final sentence, according to you?
I think the last line of the story is very important to the story. I think it basically shows how sad she became after what she has seen, in the beginning of the story it was summer and she was skipping and dancing very happily, but in the end she was very upset. If she hadn’t see the dead man she wouldn’t have been so upset in the end. The story perfectly shows just how quickly your life could turn around just because of 1 thing happening in your life. It is also very sad because in this story Myop is so young, she is only 10 years old. If I was 10 years old and saw that I would be terrified. So I think the last line of this story is very important.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat clues in the text allow us to construct a historical context around this story?
I think there are 3 things that show the story happened is in past.
There are clearly some clues in the text that make it clear this story happened in the past. You have the words like noose and sharecropper cabin that make it clear that that it happened in the past because we do not use these words very often now a days. A noose is a rope used to hang people and we don’t do this anymore these days in most countries. The situation in which the story happens gives the feeling it at all happened in the past since the story tells about the country side, forest and natural environment instead of city areas. For example the story plays on a farm with pigs, chickens and this also gives a bit the feeling it happened in the past.
So as an conclusion there are some words that make it clear this happened in the past and also we saw this by the situation the story takes plays.
2. What is the significance of the final sentence, according to you?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI believe that the meaning of the final sentence is that her happiness is over. I think that summer is portrayed as happiness in this story. In the text the author highlighted how Myop’s morning was, then she discovers a horrible sight: a dead mans corpse. She finds it disturbing and her peaceful morning was gone. If she didn’t dicover the horrifying sight, she wouldn’t have been traumatized. Right after she discovered the dead mans corpse the summer is over meaning her happiness is gone. If the summer didn’t portray happiness, the summer wouldn’t be over right after she discovers the corpse. For this reason I believe that the meaning of the final sentence is that her happiness is over.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenI have chosen the second one. Because I think it’s a very interesting one and it gives everybody the room for his or her own opinion.
I think the meaning is that it’s so horrible that all the joy was over at that moment and the summer was finished.
As you can read in the story, first the fact that she is verry happy and everything looks good. Until she finds the rotted remains of a noose and she took a better look. After her finding you can also read that she laid down the flowers.
“And the summer was over” as you can read she went from happily picking flowers to very sad in a short moment of time. As well I think that this also explains a little bit about the civil and the period after. Also I do think that if I was in her situation I also would have the shock of my live and if I lived in that time I would not like it at all. Simply because it was verry cruel as you can read. So in the end I think my point is most likely of all the opinions that you can have about this last sentence.
What is the importance of the last sentence? Thomas van pul
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI think it is very important . it resembles the story as a whole because in the beginning she is happy but at the and she is upset because of what she has seen I would even say traumatised this were she gets an other look of the world first she sees it all as a beautiful place with flower and it peacefull but then she gets an other view of the world that is that it is horrible with bones, limbs and other nasty creepy stuff but she holds on to her picked flowers I think this symbolises that she is still holding on to hope, hope that there is good in the world, but then she finds the hanged beheaded man she is shocked, traumatised .i if she had have never found him it would end very different. and this is the moment were something happens . she drops her flowers which I think resemble her hope, she lost hope and faith. if she had have holden on to the flowers there would be an whole other final sentence . this is were this final sentence comes in “the summer was over “ symbolising that the time of optimism for the world has ended and that she will be going to go into a winter of negative thoughts

BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat is the significance of the final sentence, according to you?
I think that the final sentence is the most important sentence of the story , because it tells a whole story on its own and it makes you realize what the whole story actually meant. If this sentence wouldn’t have been there the story would have a less better meaning.
The story started very innocently but gradually became more and more exciting and at the end of the story it was said that summer was over. This represents how quickly time can actually go, and that life can get worse and worse, when you don’t expect it. If I was her I would be very scared.
and so the last sentence makes you realize all this, what the writer means by the story.
And that is why I think that the last sentence in the story is also the most important, and that it means a lot to the story.
Femke van den hoeven
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt is a bit of a weird thing to say but in sum way it makes sense.
The story in general is a bit creepy. Like the nose and the flower at the end.
If I found a nose stuck to a flower, I would scream and run off.
But it seams that she doesn’t care it is like she sees it every day.
If I saw a dead man, I would be so scared.
So what is it that makes the thought of ending with this sentence, I think it has something to do with ending it with a bang. It is like in a video game the you died screen. Something like that it is not an ending but it stops. That is also what makes it scary.
So there is a link between think it is weird and that it’s a well-deserved beautiful sentence to end with.
And now it is over 😊.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe last line of the story is also the theme of the story. The theme is the loss of innocence because Myop realized that men can be very evil. The last line also means the conflict resolution. Because Myop can’t pick up the flowers in the same way is before. She will also not succeed to bring the flowers home by that day.
The writer chose the summer as last sentence. This is because if you think of summer, the first thoughts are: joy, happiness, and innocence. All these reasons connected means the final sentence of the story. And help us the audience to understand the theme of the story better. If the last sentence would not be there the theme of the story would be less clear.

BeantwoordenVerwijderen2. what is the significance of the final sentence, according to you?
I think that the last sentence of the story is a sort of salvation that Myop gets. she experienced something horrible that traumatized her forever. Which I can imagine. if you find a dead person that you don’t know, maybe you get scared that the same will happen to you. Because before she experienced that she had a very happy live. It is shocking to see that a persons life could make a whole turn in just a few actions. So I think that she feels very relieved according to the last sentence. but you can also ask yourself: ‘ if she didn’t see the body, would there be someone else to find the body? Or like ‘ If she found someone to help her, would she still be traumatized? I mean, I definitely would go see a therapist If that happens to me. That’s why I think she feels relieved, because she gets a feeling that her childhood is over and she can forget everything.
How does Alice walker use symbolism in the flowers? In the story Myop finds a dead man and lays besides him on her flowers. I think that the flowers that Myop carries with her symbolizes her youth and innocence. She is unaware of the world and death. She does not know about all the horrible things that happened during the civil war, especially to the African Americans. When she finds the corpse, she realizes how hateful the world is and she loses her youthful innocence. When she laid the flowers beside the corpse, I think that was a way for her to pay respect to him. I think that it is a good thing that she did not run, but stayed with the man, because it is not good to run away from things that scare you. If she did run away, then I think she would fear that also happening to her or her family. If she did not find the corpse, she would still have her innocence and have a happy summer.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenNikola Celan – What is the significance of the final sentence, according to you?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI strongly believe the final sentence was the most significant line in the story, this is because how quickly it flipped around whole the story. First the story started by mentioning what a beautiful day it was and how much Myop was enjoying it, although after each paragraph you read it only becomes more sad seeing what Myop witnesses at such a young age. If Myop hadn’t seen all of this horrible stuff, she wouldn’t have been traumatised at such a young age. Another good example of this is how at first Myop was collecting flowers and after all she witnessed she dropped the flowers instantly showing how damaged she was. I would think that Myop would’ve lived happy, if she hadn’t seen that. After reading the last sentence of the story going by ‘’And the summer is over’’. You need a moment to realise what they mean by it, but after processing it you understand that it means that all the joy and happines that is in the summer, is now all over. Showing how important the final sentence of a story can be, and how much it affects the story.
Kyano da costa – what is the significance of the final sentence, according to you?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI strongly believe the final sentence is a significant ending for a story. Because it gives a smooth and figurative ending, the summer didn’t really end but the reader knows it means that the joy was over after she found the body. If this never happened she wouldn’t be traumatized now. Because of this ending the reader gets a smooth ending if I would read this I would immediately want to read another book . What I also found very shocking is that this kid was so young and already witnessed such cruel things. So all summarized I think it’s a very good ending because its very smooth and it gets you to immediately want to read another story and want to know more about this story.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat is the significance of the final sentence?
The final sentence of “The Flowers” by Alice Walker, “And the summer was over,” has great significance.
The final sentence serves as a saddening ending to the story. It symbolizes the end of joy and her innocence of Myop.
All through the story, the summer is described as the time where the young girl experiences all the joy and happiness in her life. Until one day while wandering around she stumbled across a dead body. Which resulted in the ending of the summer. The perspective on the world changed through her eyes and in which she no longer found the same freedom and happiness she used to possess before. If the summer hadn’t ended, the girl’s innocence might have been still there. But now the cold has come, and the warmth has left where she is forced to confront the harsh realities of life.
The final sentence “And the summer was over” represents the passing of times and seasons. Now that summer has ended autumn will come, this symbolizes the end of her youth and innocence which will now discover the dark sides of reality. If the summer were to continue happily, Myop might have been protected from the darker aspects of life.
